At the heart of the Wylie ISD MENTOR program is something pretty simple: connection.
Our mentors are caring adults who are willing to give a student something incredibly valuable—their time. You don’t need to be a teacher, a counselor, or have all the right answers. Sometimes the most meaningful thing you can do is simply show up, listen, encourage, and let a student know they matter.
Research shows that students who feel connected at school are more likely to have higher grades and test scores, better attendance, and graduate from high school. That sense of connection is also an important protective factor for students’ mental health and overall well-being.
That’s where you come in.
As a mentor, you have an opportunity to be one more caring, consistent adult in a student’s corner—someone they know is going to show up just for them.
We ask mentors to commit to one academic year and meet with their student once a week during the school day for at least 30 minutes.
It may feel like a small amount of time in your week, but to a student, that connection can mean so much more.

- Step 1: Watch the MENTOR Orientation Video
- Step 2: Complete your online MENTOR Application and fingerprinting requirement. *Fingerprinting instructions will be sent upon application approval. *Wylie ISD will reimburse the fingerprinting fee for all mentor applicants if this is your first time being fingerprinted and you are doing so to fulfill the mentoring requirement.
- Step 3: Upon completion and approval of fingerprinting, you will be contacted by Wylie ISD Family Liaison, Joley Martin, to get you connected to a campus and student.
